I stood at a counter in the Greyhound bus terminal, looking up at the arrivals-and-departures board. A man walked up beside me, dropped a newspaper on the counter and also examined the board.

“Schaumburg, Schaumburg, Schaumburg…” I said.

“Hey buddy, you got a schedule I can look at?” asked Ramon Gonzales.

“I’ve got an extra, you can have it.” I handed Gonzo a bus schedule that was wrapped around $2,000 cash and the keys to the loaner car. “Silver VW Jetta, parked around the corner on Wells,” I added quietly.

“Thanks,” said Gonzo, and tapped on the sports section of the Chicago Tribune that lay on the counter. “Damn Blackhawks just keep on losing,” he said, and walked away.

I picked up the newspaper and walked in the opposite direction. Opening the paper to the hockey scores, I found the key for Gonzo’s cab taped to the page. Above it was written, “Franklin Avenue, back of the taxi stand.”

Cloak, I’d like you to meet Dagger.
